Through the Years
These illustrations provide a glimpse into my childhood. It was a simple and happy time. Some of the illustrations are based closely on actual locations and memories. Others are looser compilations of random recollections and feelings. I invite you to step into these scenes; to feel the warmth, joy, and contentment that I hoped to capture as I drew each one. My wish is that they stir up happy memories for you as well.
January — On Frozen Pond
It was always good news when the city announced that the ice on the pond was thick enough to skate on.
March — Spring Thaw
Even more enticing to me than the trickling stream in the alley was the muddy layer beneath it!
June — Down by the Bay
I was fascinated and also a little bit afraid of what swam around in the cool deep water of the boathouse bay.
August — Lakeland Harvest
Not everyone was as thrilled about an excursion into the woods to pick blueberries and mushrooms as they were about a refreshing dip in the lake afterwards.
November — It’s for the Birds
A good year in the garden was always celebrated by sharing something with the birds.
December — Counting the Days Until Christmas
I can still feel the excitement as my sisters and I huddled around whoever’s turn it was to open their tiny gift from the Advent calendar.
